Wessex Training – Who are we and what do we offer
Wessex is a non-profit making organisation which has been has been providing counselling services in Bristol and Somerset and counselling training since 1983. Our courses are accredited to national standards. The Diploma is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). Our Psychodynamic Psychotherapy graduates can register with the British Council for Psychoanalysis.
Our Diploma & Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training and our Post-graduate diploma in Counselling Young People in Educational and Community Settings count towards a Post-Graduate Diploma and the MA in Professional Practice with Bath Spa University.
This means that our training is rigorous, externally accredited and of the highest standards. We have a commitment to providing equality of opportunity to all and value diversity.
Training which is integrated with our clinical services
Our counselling and psychotherapy service works hand in hand with our training provision which means that we are one of the few training organisations in the region who can provide their own clinical placements for students. This is obviously dependent on client numbers and we also have arrangements with some external counselling agencies to provide a variety of experiences for our trainees.
We are part of the national network of counselling centres in the UK (National Counselling Network) and our counselling service is also accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
The Venue and Facilities
Fairfield House, on King Street, in the centre of Frome is our combined counselling, psychotherapy and training centre. We also have a centrally based training facility at the Cheese & Grain in Frome. The centre has a professional and friendly atmosphere with dedicated training and consulting rooms. The training room at Fairfield House has been recently refurbished and houses a small but important library area. Students have access to all the key texts and monthly loans of all books is an inclusive provision of the training. Though space is limited, students benefit from formal and informal association with qualified practitioners in a busy practice. From 2014-15 all students have had individual on-line access to the psychoanalytic electronic publishing facility at www.pep-web.org to support their studies.

Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy is a counselling training organisation providing nationally accredited psychodynamic counselling training from introductory courses through to Diploma and Psychotherapy levels. Our training is run in conjunction with our busy counselling service providing counselling in Frome, Bath, Bristol and Street.
