Stage Three : Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic

                        Psychotherapy (Once-weekly).


Summary of Aims and Objectives


The course aims to provide an in-depth, broadly based, high-quality professional training in advanced psychodynamic counselling and once-weekly psychotherapy. It will enable you to work at deeper levels with clients and to further integrate your experiential, theoretical and clinical learning.


By the end of successful completion of the course you will:

-       be equipped with the clinical experience and theoretical knowledge to work independently in private practice

-       Be eligible to register with the British Psychoanalytic Council/and or the UKCP as a weekly psychodynamic psychotherapist through the wpf professional organisation the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC)

-       have the foundation on which an application can be made for further wpf psychotherapy training

-       This qualification provides a foundation for psychoanalytic psychotherapy training and for further training to achieve a licence to practise twice weekly psychodynamic psychotherapy (see )

There is an interview process for which a non- returnable interviews fee of £75.00 is made. Fees can be paid in full or in installments.

Once you have accepted your place on the course the deposit fee is non-returnable. If you withdraw from the course after the start date the full fees for the course are payable.

£2,500 p.a. Monthly or quarterly payments for 2 years. This includes the cost of supervision and tutorials but excludes personal therapy

Interview process for which there is a non-returnable fee of £75


  • Leads to registration with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) as a psychodynamic psychotherapist practising once weekly psychotherapy
  • Fulfils the training requirements for individual accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • Is recognised by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) as a route to registration as a psychotherapeutic counsellor
  • Advanced Diploma graduates are granted direct entry onto the Bath Spa MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice (and deemed to have completed half on their MA).

Therapy Requirement

Minimum of weekly therapy for duration of training with an ‘Approved Therapist’. Trainees must be established in their therapy by the start of the course.



Minimum 80% Attendance.

Pass Grade in all written work:

There are six assessed written assignments, one per term, over the two years

Satisfactory reports from teaching and supervisory staff.

240 supervised client hours by the end of the training.

Personal study

2x Saturday CPD workshops per annum (of trainee’s choice)


Group supervision with up to three trainees.

Up to 4 clients to be held throughout the course

Advanced Skills Assessments

& Attendance. Supervisor’s evaluation and self-evaluation.

240 supervised client hours.

Supervision is provided for 42 weeks per annum
