Course Day:

Supervision groups run for 42 weeks of the year. The cost of smnall group supervision is included in the fees.

Course Structure: Twice-weekly Programme
The twice-weekly option can either be undertaken alongside the core psychodynamic psychotherapy training (once-weekly psychotherapy) by registering on the twice weekly porogramme once deemed ready by your supervisor OR on application to register for the twice-weekly psychodynamic psychotherapy route (following a personal interview) for those who meet the following criteria:

Twice-weekly portfolio route entry requirements:
Already hold the WCP Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling.
Already hold the wpf network Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling or the wpf Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training with a license to practice once-weekly.
Or, hold a qualification equivalent to the above.
Outside the Course Day:
Personal therapy: You must be in twice-weekly on-going therapy with an approved therapist throughout training and until qualification for both the once-weekly and twice-weekly training options.

Workshops: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy trainees are also required to attend 2 Saturday workshops a year.
Tutorials: Trainees will have three 50 minute tutorials a year, outside the course day.

Aims and Objectives:
1. To equip Trainees with the skills and techniques of the psychodynamic model: to develop a therapeutic relationship and to respond and interpret appropriately within it; to develop the capacity to make appropriate use of transference and countertransference.
2. To enable Trainees to work with clients towards the goal of psychodynamic therapy: the resolution of conflicts through insight reached in a therapeutic relationship.
3. To inform Trainees of the limits and context of the psychodynamic approach so that they can critically assess the psychodynamic model that is taught as the core theoretical model of the programme.
4. To equip Trainees to work independently as reflective practitioners.
5. To enable Trainees to probe the empirical base and the theoretical rationale for the body of techniques used in this field and to add to the understanding of what constitutes best practice.
6. To enable Trainees to engage in the theoretical debates within the subject area and to contribute to its knowledge base.
7. To equip Trainees to work with difference within themselves and in the consulting room.

Assessment: Assessment is continuous and intended to provide helpful and constructive feedback. We will provide clear guidelines to support your on-going development on the training. There are six assessed written assignments; you must complete and pass all pieces of written work and final clinical paper. You must pass each year to be awarded the qualification of Psychodynamic Psychotherapist.

Staffing: All training staff and supervisors on the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy training are psychotherapists registered with the BPC or an equivalent professional organisation and are registered with the National Voluntary Register for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Important Note for all Trainees:
Once you start the course you will be liable for the fees for the whole year irrespective of your continued attendance. This is because Wessex has to contract with training staff for the year on the basis of confirmed places. If for some unforeseen reason the course does not run then Wessex will refund your fees in full.
